Old Spanish Fort Road Trip Information

Michael has a BA in History & American Studies and an MSc in American History from the University of Edinburgh. He comes from a proud military family and has spent most of his career as an educator in the Middle East and Asia. His passion is travel, and he seizes any opportunity to share his experiences in the most immersive way possible, whether at sea or on the land.

Take Highway 82 to Nocona for a side trip (17 miles) up 103 to the site of Old Spanish Fort. Drop down to Montague on Hwy. 175 and continue on to Bowie on Hwy. 59. Try the buffet at the Catfish Hole on the west end of town. You can follow Hwy. 59 south to Fort Richardson or take 287 to Decatur to intersect the Old Butterfield Trail.
